Conventions of Institutional Credits

The opening sequence to Anuvahood begins with Levi Roots singing his song 'Reggae Reggae Sauce' on a street wall, a women then comes over and destroys his guitar. An establishing shot of the location is denoted, a run down council estate. After the title, the two main characters are introduced, one wearing a multiple coloured vest top with sunglasses, not the typical 'gangster' look, they are dancing around on the street, connoting they are not the stereotypical gang members that most British Social Realism's have, they are fun and humorous characters. A ticket officer is then denoted clamping a car tyre, he is dancing and laughing, again not your stereotypical police officer that would usually be seen. A gang of black members is denoted in the council estate, wearing tracksuits, hoodies etc, a typical representation of a gang. This connotes maybe there will be conflict between the two types of characters as the contrast between their two identities is so strong. There is a shot of two girls in the car, connoting the male gaze in the film as the two teenage lads sit behind a car and stare at them. Then a Mum swearing down the phone pushing her baby in the pram is denoted, hinting at the representation of the typical struggling Mum character. Many types of characters are denoted in just the opening scene, making it very open as to what the audience thinks will happen to each.

The typography in this opening is bold, bright and very cartoon like, the colours used are yellow, blue, green and pink. These are very fun, eye-catching colours for a British Social Realism, they are normally plain black or white. This connotes that it will have a more fun, humorous storyline than most BSR films, and will not have the typical representations of the usual characters. 



I created a timeline denoting the time at which each credit comes in with their role. 

 I have found out the typical order of credits in a film, the maker of the film, in this case Adam Deacon comes at the very beginning, he is the most important person. This is followed by all the actors and actresses. After this, the costume, production and make up designers are shown, all on the same screen. Then the maker of the music and music supervisors are denoted together, followed by the editor and director of photography together. The co producers are all together, and then the executive producers all together. The producers, who are in charge of the budget, the writers and then director who is the main creative person, in charge of the cameras, are all the last people mentioned.
