A suggestion made was to make Becca just 15 years old instead of 16, we thought this was a good point as it will enhance the youth and vulnerability of her character. A 15 year old would be judged much further for her pregnancy than a 16 year old would as it is under the legal age of sex. At the age of 15, Becca would be seen as more of a child, as she will have no support given from her struggling father, she will be faced with her struggles alone with no family support.
We were pleased with the responses of how we have represented the girl as vulnerable in contrast to films like Juno and Precious where her pregnancy is not seen in a sympathetic way as the pregnancies are their own faults, although we have taken the comments on board to make sure the rape is presented in a sensitive way in order to still get the emotional response from our audience without making it unsettling to watch.
Research has helped us to develop our idea further as we have found out what other BSR films our audience enjoys to watch. The film which was most popular was Kidulthood because of it's grabbing storyline and characters, to make our film appeal to our audience we will make sure to present our story and characters in the same grabbing way as Kidulthood. Fish Tank was another favourite from our audience because of it's unique storyline and the struggles that the young girl is faced with, this is similar to our idea because she is a teenager who has no support from her single mother, she is faced with struggles everyday and is forced to deal with them on her own.
The feedback on our film idea was really positive, people liked the fact that it does not give a false sense of reality, nothing is perfect, people are faced with problems everyday. From this we are going to make sure that our film is not chiche and predictable, and make sure not to have too many problems in the first 2 minutes of our film. People liked the fact that our film will raise awareness for something that is common in a lot of young girl's lives, but other films such as Juno do not present it in the way that it is not always the girls fault. That is the main aim of our film, to connote to our audience that rape does occur, and girls should not be judged for their pregnancy as soon as they are seen because it isn't always their decision.
